la boheme

Have you heard about the silent opera playing in the tunnels beneath the Old Vic? It sounds intriguing and I'd love to check it out.

It is a new type of immersive theatre, where instead of watching a performance, you wander through the tunnels watching as scenes unfold around you. Throughout the performance, you'll hear a both live singers as well as a new recording of Puccini's famous score but the quirk is that you listen to the entire show through headphones! It sounds incredible and I'd suggest booking tickets quickly, they are sure to sell out.

La Boheme, playing at The Vault through 26th Feb, £20 tickets available here

pariya

Look at this delicious candy floss. Created by Azadeh Ashrafinia, a fourth generation Iranian confectioner, the exotic flavours of her tasty treats make my mouth water. Pistachio and rose, saffron and orange blossom all could be used to add style and panache to dinner parties or special events. Pariya, the company's name, is the Persian word for fairies. And her fairy floss is definitely an other worldly treat.

Pariya, available online.

Spring fashion is here and with it comes lots of lovely pastel colours. This new skirt from Whistles is fab! I love the midi length and the fresh candy coloured stripes. Perfect for spring time sunshine.

boom

And it’s Monday! Welcome back friends, I hope you had a good weekend.

This year, one of my New Year’s resolutions is to watch less TV and listen to more music. I love music and used to regularly go to gigs and dance around the house listening to my favourite tunes. Unfortunately however, as life got busier, somehow music fell by the wayside. Instead of coming home and listening to the radio, I’d come home and listen to the news! I’m hoping that by sticking to my resolution, this year that will change.

I’ve been looking for a new digital radio that I can use in my bedroom and came across this super cool 80s throwback boombox designed by Paul Smith and Lasonic.  It’s is a little too spendy for my tastes, but wouldn’t it a great way to get the tunes pumping?! How are you going to accomplish your New Year’s resolutions?

london art fair

Ah…happy Friday friends! We made it. Phew. What is it about the first week back after a holiday that is always so hard?

I am very much looking forward to the weekend. As I mentioned, the husband and I are off to Pitt Cue Co tonight to indulge in some proper BBQ. Tomorrow we are going to check out the London Art Fair in Islington. The images above are from some of the featured artists. I’m hoping to finally sort some pictures to finish my black & white wall (which I'll share with you next week). Sunday I’ll be working at Hildreth St Market so if you are in Balham pop by and say hi!

Hope you have a smashing weekend.

lovely letterpress

I love letterpress. I discovered this wonderfully tactile way of printing whilst planning our wedding and fell in love with it immediately. With the heavy weight of the paper, a limitless amount of creative design and the romance of using a process that has been around since the 1900s you can see why the technique is totally delightful.

The above are my top pics from the 2012 invitation collection by Bella Figura, a small US based company we used for our own wedding invites. Based outside Syracuse, New York, they use an original 1950's letterpress and (little known fact), paper made of cotton, created just for them by a 500 year old European mill. Amazing!

It's funny as when we were planning our wedding I had a strong preference for vintage designs. Now however, I love the modern, graphically strong designs with bold colour. What is your favourite?

spots

Is there such a thing as too many spots? This weekend I'll be checking out Damien Hirst's The Complete Spot Paintings, showing at not one, but two locations through the 18th Feb. The show has received mix reviews, with some critics questioning the value of hundreds of paintings of spots. I'll see for myself and let you know.

The Complete Spot Paintings are showing at Gagosian Gallery, 6-24 Britannia St., WC1X 9JD & 17-19 Davies St., W1K 3DE

pitt cue co

There are few things in life better than smoked meat. And my favourite BBQ joint in London has graduated from a (delicious) food trunk and has opened a restaurant in Soho! The husband and I will be checking it out on Friday...stay tuned. My mouth is watering already.

welcome to 2012

Hello friends. My it has been awhile! I know we are practically halfway through January, but I hope you all had a wonderful holiday break and a great start to the New Year.

The husband and I just returned from a two week trip to India. It was incredible! I'll be posting pictures a bit later in the week and telling you about our adventure.

Today however, I wanted to share a little travel trick of mine. I always take the time, before leaving on a trip, to tidy the flat and change the sheets on our bed. I don't know about you, but in our home, finding the time to do this before a flight is always a challenge! The reward is worth it however, because when your poor travel wearied body finally makes it home, you simply jump in a hot shower and climb into bed. And trust me, there is nothing better after a long trip then curling up in your own bed with nice, freshly cleaned sheets. Bliss!

I have lots of fun things to share with you this year, it's going to be a good one. Happy days friends! It's nice to be back.
