print club

Print Club London is a new studio/workshop on Brick Lane that has recently started offering screen printing lessons. The studio space is impressive & the art for sale is both affordable and incredibly striking. Think graphic prints, bold colours & one off designs.

The beginner workshops run twice a week and are booking up quickly. I'm definitely going to check it out!

outstanding in the field

What a phenomenal idea! Outstanding in the field is an organisation whose mission is to reconnect people to the land that feeds them. They host outdoor dinner parties in spectacular locations around the world. The food is always locally produced and they pay ultimate respect to the local farmers and food artisans who make it. Tickets are quite spendy...but I think it might be worth it.

69b broadway market

We've been living in Hackney for three years now and I'm constantly impressed with the number of amazing new shops that keep opening on Broadway Market. The latest is a super cool clothing shop, 69b. They clothes are fab - loose prints, tailored trousers and most importantly a great selection of jeans! They opened three weeks ago and are hosting an in store event next Tuesday (29th March) until 9pm giving us 50% off the clothes! See you there.

diy: part 3

In addition to our floors, we've finally finished painting the living room!

We went with a pale grey which adds colour, but still keeps a light & bright feel to the room. Next step, built-in book shelves & art. Stay tuned...

south africa: animals

The bulk of our time in South Africa was spent driving the Garden Route, but we had time to make a few detours along the way. We spent a magical morning doing a safari and an afternoon visiting an ostrich farm.

Ostrich
Rhino
Water Buffalo
Giraffe
Zebra
The overall trip was such an amazing experience, but it was the animals we saw that made it fantastic. During the safari, we were lucky enough get super close to a baby rhino as well as seeing a lion and lioness feeding. Eek! And at the ostrich farm we visited, we all got to take a ride on one...although it was more like holding on for dear life. Quite the experience.

south africa: cape town

My three favourite things about Cape Town: the food, the beaches and an amazing market, the Old Biscuit Mill.

chocolate milkshake, it doesn't get better than that!
chicory, sun dried tomatoes, mozzarella & pumpkin seeds
lovely clear water
beautiful fishing villages
sunset in camps bay
The Old Biscuit Mill is a collection of food stalls, clothing shops, and general nicknacks. The food is all locally produced and the stall holders were all so knowledgeable about everything they had on offer! I didn't take any pictures, but husband had an amazing steak sandwich - grilled to order with rocket, tzatziki and the most tasty salsa I've ever had. I went for an onion bagel with rare roast beef, honey mustard and fresh pickle. Perfection.

south africa: garden route

Husband and I have just got back from a week in South Africa to celebrate husband's dad's 65th birthday. We flew into Cape Town early Monday morning and immediately jumped in a car to go meet the rest of his family. The first part of the trip was a driving tour of the famed Garden Route.

We stayed at this lush apartment in Franschhoek called The Ivy.

Visited an elephant sanctuary and met Jumba.

Canoed down a river and climbed to the top of a waterfall at Wilderness.

Visited a cheetah sanctuary.

And finished off the tour in the lovely Dutch settled town of Stellenbosch.

diy: part 2

Our floors are done!

And I have to say, I love the new colour. The rich, dark brown is such a difference to the light pine we had before. It has already changed the feel of the room. We are deciding on wall colour now & I'm leaning towards the pale grey we've tried in the picture on the right. Will let you know what we decide!

alpe d'huez

heading down at the end of a long day

I surprised husband with a weekend snowboarding at Alpe d'Huez, France for our sixth month wedding anniversary. I was looking for a little bit of love time (our anniversary fell on Valentine's Day) and the sun drenched mountains did not disappoint! Unfortunately, there wasn't much snow, but we had an absolute ball just playing around the mountains anyway. Don't you love sweet weekends away?

amazing art: dan hillier

Father and Son

I first saw artwork by East London based artist Dan Hillier over Christmas at a very cool pop up restaurant in Hackney. Husband and I have been talking about buying on of his pieces for ages and have finally decided to go for it! Only problem is deciding which print to get, they are all so amazing.

best.shoe.ever.

I just bought myself a pair of classic black converse. This is a replacement purchase, explained to my husband as totally necessary(!), as my current pair of white converse are worn to practically nothing. Don't you love it when you where shoes so much you literally wear holes into them? That's the sign of a well loved shoe.

diy project: part 1

So...husband and I bought our flat just over a year ago. We also happened to get engaged about the same time. Trying to buy and decorate a flat, whilst planning a wedding is not something I would recommend. Eek!

Now however, we have just celebrated our six month wedding anniversary (yay!) and have the time and money to sort out the upstairs room in our flat.

This is what it looks like now:

Kitchen on right, lounge on left
Lounge behind, facing dining area
Looking into the kitchen
It is a great open plan space, but unfortunately because the flat is pretty new, the finish on the floors and walls leave a lot to be desired. We started by painting the chalkboard on the wall. But now the plan is to change the floors, paint the room, put up some art and sort out our furniture.

I'll update you with our progress as the week's go on...wish me luck!
